Four major causes of diesel generator set wear

Diesel generator sets will wear out when used. What causes this to happen?

  1. Machine speed and load

As the load increases, the friction between the components increases as the unit pressure on the surface increases. When the speed increases, the number of frictions between parts will double per unit time, but the power remains unchanged. However, too low a speed cannot guarantee good liquid lubrication conditions, which will also increase wear. Therefore, for a certain generator set, there is a most suitable operating speed range.

  1. Working environment temperature

During the use of the diesel generator set, due to the structural limitations of the cooling system, the machine workload and speed will change. Therefore, the temperature change of the machine itself will have a great impact on the diesel engine. And it has been proven by practice The cooling water temperature is controlled between 75 and 85°C, and the lubricating oil temperature is between 75 and 95°C, which is most beneficial to the production of the machine.

  1. Unstable factors such as acceleration, deceleration, parking and starting

When the diesel generator set is operating, due to frequent changes in speed and load, poor lubrication conditions or unstable thermal conditions of the diesel generator set, wear will increase. Especially when starting, the crankshaft speed is low, the oil pump does not supply oil in time, the refueling temperature is low, the oil viscosity is high, it is difficult to establish liquid lubrication on the friction surface, and the wear is very serious.

  1. The surrounding ambient temperature during use

Relative to the surrounding air temperature, as the air temperature increases, the temperature of the diesel engine will also increase, so the viscosity of the lubricating oil will decrease, resulting in increased wear of parts. When the temperature drops, the viscosity of the lubricating oil increases, making it difficult for the generator set to start. Similarly, if the cooling water cannot be maintained at a normal temperature when the machine is working, it will also increase the wear and corrosion of parts. In addition, when the generator set is started at low temperature, the wear and tear caused to the machine is more serious than that at high temperature.
